The new world is born just before our eyes. What are the images of the world to come ?

Méheut Mathurin (1882-1957), artist from Lamballe, attracted by Japanese prints in 1914 has a travel grant for staying close to 4 months in Japan.

Immobilizes in 1927, Mathurin Méheut then illustrates his correspondence with the artist Yvonne Jean-Haffen (1895-1993) sketches recalling his memories of Japan. True to his interests, he sketched scenes of daily life but also the Japanese temples.

Mathurin Méheut is especially sensitive to red torii and the delicacy of the sacred deer. Of the 1,400 letters addressed to Yvonne Jean-Haffen by Mathurin Méheut throughout their collaboration, nearly forty are directly inspired from Japan. These letters are exceptionally presented at the Museum Yvonne Jean-Haffen – Maison d’artiste de la Grande Vigne where Yvonne Jean-Haffen lived until his death in 1993.

The Photographer Hervé Gloaguen, exposing at the “ café des éditeurs“, in Paris, some of his remarkable works, tells the stories about his work. Hervé GLOAGUEN was born in Rennes in 1937. His father is a pharmacist in Hédé , near Rennes. The idea of ​​following the path of his father did not really seems exciting to him , and he chooses to assert his idendity alone, away from Britanny, where he will come back occasionally. He joined the photography school in the Rue de Vaugirard in Paris, but was soon fired (he had never touched a camera), then he haunts the taverns where jazz musicians were his models until 1960, “as happy as a devil in holy water.”

After military service in the Navy two years, he met filmmaker Chris Marker, who recommends him to the magazine Facts. The Photographer Gilles Ehrmann whom he became assistant introduced him to professional technique and the “creation in all things …”

In 1964 began the work of freelance. First professional work for EDF, Saint Gobain, and Realities.

In 1965, Jazz enthusiast, traveling across Europe and the U.S. for orders or personal stories, Contemporary Art fascinates him, he photographs the artist Andy Warhol, the choreographer Merce Cunningham, composer Karl Heinz STOCHAUSEN and realizes a series on visual artists living in Paris in the 70s. In 1971, Hervé GLOAGUEN joined the agency VU. But the editions ‘ Rencontres” which supported the agency withdrew, leaving a set of photographers disappointed.

The agency VIVA is created in 1972 : news agency whose motto is implicit in “Making personal photographs on topics that concern everyone.” Gather there with GLOAGUEN Hervé, Alain Dagbert, Claude Dityvon, Martine Frank, François HERS, Kalvar Richard, Jean and Guy THE SLATS QUERREC. Hervé Gloaguen works within the agency for ten years producing news reports and long-term work – reports on the European Communist parties (PCF, PCI, PCE), the Revolution in Portugal in 1974, the fall of Saigon in 1975, elections in Italy in 1976 and Spain in 1977, the realization of a book on Lyon in 1982.

From 1980 he is working to create a color photographic language, without flash, controlled and systematic, focused on the two poles that will make the story modern : realism and the subjectivity of the reportage images. In fact in 1975 he undertook this type of reporting nightly on Rome, which ended in 1995 by the photo essay: Rome at night.

Since 1982, Hervé GLOAGUEN is represented by the agency RAPHO. He signed several reports in color in GEO magazine and various publications. He made numerous trips to Africa to Institut Merieux of Lyon, and the High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva. He participated as a photographer, from 1990 to 1998, air raids Air Solidarity enabling it to fly over much of Africa. He carries on a report on world trade of blood circulation in the international press.
In 1997, Hervé Gloaguen trips to Peru and Bolivia. In 2002 he began a photographic essay on London.

From the village musics of yesterday to modern songs making use of the most contemporary technologies, exposure led to reflect on the universality of music, both product and reflection of a tradition of his time. Affirming that there is no society without music and that every culture, every society produces its own instruments based on available materials and technical knowledge, the exhibition explores different worlds sound, such as those of Romania, India, Africa and Britanny, bringing together the instruments and objects from around the world.

All along an amazing participatory journey , this exhibition can in turn be immersed in the sounds of the world, then, through an unlikely symphony orchestra, to contemplate this diversity through the instruments. We thus discover some sixty instruments from all periods, all countries and all types: membranophones, stringed instruments, aerophones, the électronophones … An interactive device coupled to this arrangement gives us the opportunity to become the conductor and to ring these instruments. From there, the exhibition takes us to meet collectors of sounds and endeavor – through several examples of the collection – to show the importance of backup jobs, conservation and dissemination of intangible heritage. Movies, pictures, sound samples & artefacts are on display.
The adaptation and transformation of musical expressions are then addressed, not to mention the theme of globalization by the phenomenon of “hits”. While we are passing behind the turntables as a DJ International, the presentation of some fifty songs – all ranked No. 1 in sales at the beginning of 2012 – leads us to point out that globalization does not necessarily call into question force identities.

There is no society without music. Always and everywhere, man has used sound sources to express their feelings, invoke his gods, celebrate or mourn its dead heroes. Processes which uses music differ considerably from one company, of an epoch or an age group to another. Similarly, musical taste is different, and that some see as beautiful may be for other than a dreadful cacophony! Music is thus a noise footprint of the world in which it occurs, a signature of individuals who produce it, an echo of cultural diversity.
